Factorio smelting setup.

A simple, compact smelting block suitable for the beginning of the game. It will smelt 15 ore per second or one full yellow belt into plates. Ore and coal are input on the belts on the bottom right. This design is easilly upgradeable to double the capacity to 30/s once red belts and steel furnaces are available.

Easily cover a resource patch with miners to connect it to your factory. This planner makes an attempt to create an optimal miner placement layout that doesn't use more miners than necessary, meaning a more steady flow of resources. Landfill is automatically added if entities end up over water tiles.Generally it is better to space the beacons as far apart from the furnaces as possible. That leaves two tiles between the furnace and the beacon. Enough for a belt and an inserter. That cuts the required number of furnaces almost in half because you can have more beacons per furnace. With 8 beacons per furnace it's 13 furnaces for a blue belt ...Hello all- recently in one of my factories I have started using beacons with my copper smelting. Now, one electric mining drill produce 0.525 Coal/s, so 1.08 / 0.525 = 2.057143, you need 3 electric mining drill per smelting array (if you want to be sure and don't want small shortage)

Once you move to the megabase stage it only gets worse, even with beacons and modules. Also note that 0.17 will change several science and rocket ratios. This will trickle down to smelting requirements.

For steel I normally just stack another standard smelter print on the output of one of my iron lines. I like what you did. What I would add is a buffer either for each furnace or for each output-belt, because if you don't do that the furnaces will stop running when entirely filled. The steel transfer I find really smart.

By contrast, in a straight-serial setup, only the last furnace in the line would have belt access until the backlog drained past the second-to-last furnace, and etc.Early Game Steel Smelting. I've always had my smelting lines right next to each other in the early game and used the exact same design for all of them, including steel, which meant wrapping one of more iron lines back around to the beginning so it can feed the steel smelters. Having that one line going backwards against the current always ...A 33rd furnace will only run ~50% of the time, a 34th furnace will only run ~25% of the time. (Rough numbers: with 2 speed 2 modules you're running 2 / 3.5 * 1.6 = 0.91 plate / sec / furnace. So your 32 furnaces push out ~29.3 plates / second. A fully-compressed blue belt can transport ~40.2 items / sec.Blue belt: three times as yellow belt. If you take a look at the info for yellow belt it says "Belt speed: 15 items/s". If you look at electric miners it says "Mining speed: 0.5/s". Divide one value by the other to get 30, and that's the number of miners a single yellow belt can support (both sides of the belt included).

Let's say I'm mining copper with an electric miner, going to a stone furnace. The cheat sheet says Miners = Belt Throughput / Mining Rate. It also says this for buildings (in our case, furnaces): Buildings = Belt Throughput / Material Consumption Rate. The set up as you have it is fine you just need to set it up so that the split belts are on the outside of the array and the smelters feed the plates into a single belt on the inside. For Steel Smelting the Iron Plate inserters are wired individually to the Requester Chests located behind them and are set to work on Circuit Network Condition "Iron Plates > 4", which ensures they only insert Iron Plates into the Furnace as long as the Inserter is able to grab 5 Plates in a turn from the Requester Chest, basically abusing the …Setup 1 has 9 beacons on both steel and iron, but allows for beacon sharing, and the stack outserters for the steel can be clocked. I think if you do localised smelting, its just a lot more extra work when you add an outpost, or remove one. Plus its a lot more resource to setup remotely.

Question: megabase, trains and smelting. So I recently 'finished' with my first base after launching 50 or so rockets and I've decided to tear down my entire main-bus based factory and start from (sorta) square one. My first base was very much centralised and bus driven, with trains unloading ore into smelting arrays which fed into the main bus ...

For smelting I bring in ore from out posts to a main smelting area. I build rail networks that the ore trains travel on that are (usually) not the main lines for any other items to keep traffic in the main areas down where possible. I usually do this in a 4 corner style. Where I have a large body of water I set up oil refining and nuclear power. For example, crushing 2 saphirite ores gives you 2 crushed saph. You need 3 crushed saph to make 2 iron plates. So here, you have a net 4 saph ore (needs 2 to crush) to 2 iron plate ratio. Adding sorting turns into this: 2 ore -> crush = 2 crushed ore. 4 crushed ore -> sort = 2 iron ore, 1 copper ore. Smelting non-crushed ore is a 1:1 ratio, so ...Re: A Question About Where to Smelt. by sillyfly » Sat May 02, 2015 2:40 pm. This solution works pretty well, as the trains will smelt their contents on their way back to base, avoiding all the cons of on-site smelting and centralized smelting.
